Repairing the BMW R 75/5

Now that we've been riding the beemer a bit, we've had a couple breakdowns.

The first repair was to a sticking float valve. Fuel was streaming from the float bowl. With these Bing carbs, there is just a wire clamp that holds the float bowl on, so its very easy to loosen the clamp, and drop the float bowl. So, we turned off the petcocks, and dropped the float bowl. Then we just let the float drop down slightly, open the petcock a little to let the fuel flush the valve out. Next, just to make sure the problem was corrected, we held the float up to make sure the valve would stop the fuel flow. Once we knew the problem was corrected, we put the bowl back on and rode home.

The latest is the sparkplug resistor cap on the right side. The insulation cracked, allowing the spark to go to ground so we had no fire on the right side. Surpisingly, they machine still runs, but poorly.
The repairs amounted to taking the sheetmetal sheild off the insulator, using 5 minute epoxy to repair it and then puting the sheild back on.
Here's the resitor, spark plug cap disassembled. Its a little difficult to see in the photo, but the two darker pieces go together (are broken apart). The smaller element protruding from darker piece is the 1000 ohm resistor.
Here's the insulator being glued with epoxy.
